I'm in Phuket at the moment, doing a ASA Competent Crew Course. That will be another Blog & Video later. I thought I'd write something about my mornings.
I recently started to try and get fit - extend my active life I guess. So, in the last 6 months I've lost 25kg, that's about 55lbs. It's been a mix of Keto Diet, Low Carb Diet and of course exercise. I do a lot of weights and functional training, but hate cardio. Anything over 5mins without a change kills my brain !

So - here I am in Phuket, in a Condo by the sea. I walk out to Mai Khao beach and walk and run. At 6:30am the sun is just rising and the beach is mine. Getting out of bed for that is easy!

As we are on the west side the waves are crashing in with that amazing sound that is both powerful and soothing at the same time.

There are Brahminy Kites overhead - just soaring. You watch their bodies almost still, their heads constantly moving. I assume on the lookout for food, but I also think, like me, just for the shear pleasure of the freedom that the morning air brings.

So you walk, the sand moving underfoot. Occasionally the sea washes in more than I expect and I'm caught in water up to my knees. I quickly learn to stand still at this point & wait for it to recede. First few times I was almost pulled over as I tried to keep walking.

Before you know it, you've done over km out, which makes it over 3km's once you've got back. My Garmin Fenix 5X watch (I'll cover that in my gadgets soon) tells me I'm keeping my heart rate comfortably in that burn zone. Most importantly I did it for over 30mins and didn't feel like stopping at any point!
To the real fitness people, that's nothing I know. If I'm to loose more weight I know I'll have to step it up, but for me, at my age (in my 50's) - going to fast will likely cause injury. So each day I'll step up the distance and speed, add some jogging etc.. I love the phrase - slowly, slowly, catchy monkey!
If I lived near a beach, one that gets waves, I'm sure I'd be so much fitter - this truly is fitness made easy!
I'm going to finish this Blog with a thought I saw a week ago - I just think is an awesome perspective. Exercise is not a punishment for the food we ate. It's a celebration for what we can do. So go and find a way to celebrate.
